Corporations halt donations to GOP who voted to overturn elections

Some of America’s biggest companies are suspending donations to Republican Congress members who objected to the Electoral College’s votes. The growing list of those corporations, including BlueCross BlueShield, Citigroup (C), Commerce Bank and Marriott (MAR), comes after a pro-Trump mob breached the US Capitol last Wednesday to fight against the ceremonial counting of electoral votes that confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s win. 147 Republicans voted against certification of the electoral votes in a joint session of Congress last Wednesday evening. They included Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, among hundreds other congress members. “At the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, we continuously evaluate our political contributions to ensure that those we support share our values and goals,” said Kim Keck, BlueCross BlueShield’s president and CEO, in a statement. “In light of this week’s violent, shocking assault on the United States Capitol, and the votes of some members of Congress to subvert the results of November’s election by challenging Electoral College results, BCBSA will suspend contributions to those lawmakers who voted to undermine our democracy.” The health insurance company’s BLUEPAC political action committee — supported only by employee contributions — donated $246,750 to Republican lawmakers during the 2020 cycle. That included $10,000 to Sen. Tuberville, $1,000 to Sen. Marshall and $500 to Sen. Hawley. BlueCross BlueShield said it’s stopping donations to all 147 Republicans who challenged the Electoral College results. #CNN #ChristineRomans #FirstMove

  1. How do one survive brutal violations of Texas in social and economic injustices. Do these people even know, (ego or not) these are the worst, cruel, racist group of people on the face of the world. Last time I tried to find justice after being in Texas for a while at a young age and being threatened by a black immigration judge, I end up fleeing and end up in Ottawa in 1998. Surrounded by lawyers and politicians who were looking for some kind of justice as well, I believe we only end up assisting the events of September 11. Many may have forgotten the events of that day, but some of us don't and we have lost our livelihoods ever since. I come from a black nation in Africa that my ancestors have never bow down for European inversions of any kind until they all die. My ancestors live protecting their God given freedom and land for hundreds of years. So how can one be able to function in Texas where group of people who think of other minorities, blacks, or Hispanics as less than them and less human beings, where we live with guns constantly pointed on our head?

  2. You all have been duped by billionaires that hate Trump because they can’t buy him. They own CNN which promotes hatred and lies! Truly If you only watch CNN or mainstream media you are being lied to on a grand scale. They are omitting what he has done and putting out flagrant lies!

  3. “You cannot serve God and mammon.” This is the one thing that will turn McConnell against Trump. Trump’s riotous acts have cut him off at the knees hence his much deserved downfall. He LOVES money and his mob supporters don’t have it.

  4. Bribing government officials has been working great for these non-tax paying (or very little paying for some) corporations and they get what they want through these bribes. Now cutting off the republicans will actually make the republicans do EVEN MORE for them to get those bucks flowing again! Win Win for corporations, Lose Lose for citizens unfortunately. Get dark money out of politics and save the nation.

  5. The companies are the reason the US military is fighting war it has no reason and business fighting .
These companies will be felt with accordingly.
9/11 won’t be forgotten nor forgiven.
    They better believe it. Fascists.

  6. america is run, ruled, controlled by corporations and that is one of the biggest sources of corruption within your 'democratic republic' so doing business is what makes america america… its gone that far……but yes, business is what america represents, not the people, …….trump was a good example of the kind of individual that such a culture breeds……..i am surprised your churches arre not named after powerful corporations and the congregation attends to get a weekly report and pep talk by corporate management…….

These Businesses and Institutions Are Cutting Ties With Trump

Several large banks and the P.G.A. are among those that have disassociated themselves from the president and his allies since his supporters stormed the Capitol. A Facebook logo reflected on an advertisement board outside the U.S. Capitol. Other companies and organizations have begun to cut ties to Trump-related entities since the Capitol rampage. A growing number of companies and institutions have taken actions against President Trump and his associates since the deadly rampage at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday by the president’s supporters. Universities stripped Mr. Trump of honorary degrees, major banks paused political contributions, and the P.G.A. of America said it would no longer hold the P.G.A. Championship at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., which had been scheduled for May 2022. Here is a list of entities that have severed ties with Mr. Trump or distanced themselves from the president — and in some cases, Republican politicians who supported his efforts to overturn the election. Many were identified by the newsletter Popular Information. Technology platforms Google, Facebook and Microsoft said they were pausing political spending and would reassess their spending in the wake of last week’s storming of the Capitol. Facebook’s announcement came four days after it banned Mr. Trump from posting on its platform at least through the end of his term, after years of defending its hands-off approach. The online payment platform Stripe will no longer process payments for Mr. Trump’s campaign website, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. The newspaper, citing people familiar with the matter, said the e-commerce company had cited violations of its user policy, which bars users from promoting violence on its platform.

Shopify, the company that powers e-commerce sites for more than one million merchants, said on Thursday that it had closed two online stores tied to Mr. Trump, including those run by the Trump Organization and the Trump campaign.

And several digital platforms — including Snapchat, YouTube, Twitch, Reddit and Twitter — also recently limited or suspended Mr. Trump on their services. The social app Parler, popular among conservatives as an alternative to Twitter, went dark Monday morning after Amazon cut it off from its computing services.

    The P.G.A. of America

The P.G.A. of America announced on Sunday night that its board of directors had voted to terminate an agreement to play the P.G.A. Championship — one of golf’s four prestigious global major men’s championships — at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., in 2022. Lost Passwords Lock Millionaires Out of Their Bitcoin Fortunes “It has become clear that conducting the P.G.A. Championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the P.G.A. of America brand, and would put at risk the P.G.A.’s ability to deliver our many programs, and sustain the longevity of our mission,” Jim Richerson, president of the P.G.A. of America, said in a video statement. The Trump Organization said it was disappointed with the P.G.A.’s decision. “This is a breach of a binding contract, and they have no right to terminate the agreement.” Companies and institutions are shunning President Trump and some associates after the attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Trump family business, built on luxury hospitality, is contemplating a reinvention. AT&T and Marriott were among companies that will stop campaign contributions to lawmakers who objected to certifying the election. Other companies, such as JPMorgan, paused all political donations. Financial institutions. Several of the country’s largest banks said they would temporarily stop sending donations from their political action committees. Citigroup, which gave $1,000 in 2019 to the campaign of Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, one of the senators who voted against the certification of the Electoral College results, said it had paused all campaign contributions until March.“We want you to be assured that we will not support candidates who do not respect the rule of law,” Candi Wolff, the bank’s head of government affairs, wrote in an internal memo. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Bank of America and Wells Fargo said they were suspending donations through their PACs. Morgan Stanley said it suspended contributions to members of Congress who voted against certifying the results of the election, but has not suspended contributions across the board. Deutsche Bank, which has been Mr. Trump’s primary lender for two decades, and Signature Bank, are also seeking distance from him and his business. Deutsche Bank has decided not to do business with Mr. Trump or his company in the future, according to a person familiar with the bank’s thinking. TRUMP OWES OVER $350M. Republican lawmakers are accused of giving Capitol tours to insurrectionists before the riot as new inquires are opened. Google bans political ads until the inauguration. Visa last week temporarily suspended all its political donations through its PAC as it reviews its candidate contribution guidelines, a spokesman said. American Express and Mastercard said they would no longer give political contributions to politicians who had tried to block the certification of the election results. “Last week’s attempts by some congressional members to subvert the presidential election results and disrupt the peaceful transition of power do not align with our American Express Blue Box values,” Stephen J. Squeri, the American Express chief executive, wrote in a memo to staff on Monday. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Jan. 13 that New York City would terminate its contracts with the Trump Organization because of the mob riot. The contracts are for two ice-skating rinks at Central Park, the Central Park Carousel and the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, a city-owned golf course in the Bronx. “Inciting an insurrection against the U.S. government clearly constitutes criminal activity,” Mr. de Blasio said in an interview on MSNBC. “The City of New York will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization.” The New York State Bar Association The New York State Bar Association has started an inquiry into whether Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, should be removed from its membership, the organization said in a statement on Monday. The association said it had received hundreds of complaints about Mr. Giuliani’s support for Mr. Trump’s false claims of widespread election fraud. Last week, Mr. Giuliani called for a “trial by combat” in a speech in Washington just hours before the Capitol was stormed. “Mr. Giuliani’s words quite clearly were intended to encourage Trump supporters, unhappy with the election’s outcome, to take matters into their own hands,” the association said. The association’s bylaws forbid members from, among other things, advocating “the overthrow of the government.” Mr. Giuliani, who did not respond to a request for comment, would still be allowed to practice law if he lost his membership in the voluntary association. Big businesses donate to both political parties, with many saying their support is tied to narrow issues of specific interest to their industries. The following have said they were adjusting their giving practices in light of last week’s storming of the Capitol. AT&T, Amazon, Comcast, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Ford, Best Buy and Marriott International said they had suspended or ended contributions to members of Congress who voted against the certification of the Electoral College vote last week. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest business lobbying group, condemned Mr. Trump’s conduct that led to the siege of the Capitol and said that lawmakers who backed his efforts to discredit the election would no longer receive the organization’s financial backing. Walmart joined the list of companies to halt donations to members of Congress who sought to overturn the vote tallies. The Walt Disney Co. said it would forgo making political contributions to House and Senate members who voted to reject the certification of votes. It called the siege at the Capitol a “direct assault on one of our country’s most revered tenets: the peaceful transition of power.” The short-term home rental company Airbnb and Dow, the chemicals giant, said their political action committees would suspend all contributions to any member of Congress who voted against the certification of the presidential election. The political action committee for the greeting card company Hallmark Cards has asked two Republican senators — Mr. Hawley and Roger Marshall of Kansas, both of whom voted to overturn election results — to return all of the committee’s campaign contributions. Representatives of the senators did not respond to requests for comment. UPS has suspended its political contributions for now, according to a spokeswoman. American Airlines, BP, ConocoPhillips and the Coca-Cola Company said they would pause all of their political donations while they reviewed their giving practices. “These events will long be remembered and will factor into our future contribution decisions,” Coca-Cola said in a statement. General Motors said it had paused new contributions from its political action committee and noted that the company had not determined which politicians it would give to this year.

  8. Whew, that impeachment vote is finally over. The Yeas win it. 10 repubs not scared enough to say yea. The other 197 are the real tail between the leg scared wimps . They're 'party 1st' only and they stink. Now watch the trumplikans go after those "10" who just had a difference of opinion and saw the truth for what it is.

  9. "Attention: After 30 years, CNN Airport segment closing down."

Damn, Trump is losing business contracts and CNN is forced to shutter a major segment of it's operation. All in the same day.

  10. Harvard and Yale law school = closet neonazis like Hawley and Cruz. We have to purge the highest level of the justice system from white supremacists.
    1. From now on, law clerks for SCOTUS should only come from traditionally African-American law schools.

    2. The entering class of every elite law school must be 50% African-American, or no ABA accreditation.

  11. 一切都会过去,还记得非正义的东西方制裁吗?君从来反对对潜在政治竞争对手的制裁打压。美国的制裁人员名单与中国的制裁人员名单都是一次蓄谋的政治打压。所以君子能理解你们的苦。

  12. and well they should. I have voted in every election since 1968. I have never and Never will contribute a dime to a political campaign. I have volunteered and worked on campaigns. Advertising is used to "Convince" people to buy a product. It is designed not to inform but to stimulate the impulse to "BUY". Most advertisements do not want you to think. They only convince the unthinking and the Narrow Minds (?) of people.

  13. It's funny how Trump's actions are temporarily accomplishing Wolf Pac's goals, but don't get your hopes up. The corporations are just reacting to which way the wind is blowing. It'll be business as usual in a couple of weeks.

  14. Brick by brick, Trump is being torn down-his power, his threats, his ego, his supporters, his days left. The world is watching the mad, racist man crumble.

You locked up children in cages, keeping them from their families and then wonder why you weren't re-elected?

You started building a wall to keep Mexicans out who of some you said were "drug dealers and rapists" and you wonder why you didn't get re-elected. (By the way, how can you ban people from a land that your people stole via deceit and violence?)

Remember calling some military people "losers and suckers"? That ring a bell?

You were a traitor in front of Putin, the American people and the world. Recall that? Big vote changer!

Never saw your promised healthcare plan. Americans who really needed it trusted that you'd come through for them. You let them down. Some of your own supporters said they made a big mistake voting for you, said they never would again.

Time and time and time again you showed your true colors, one being that you're a racist, that you really don't like "people of color" and that you are all for white supremacists. Remember your "stand down but stand by" statement to the Proud boys?

Do you recall telling some "people of color" to go back to their and I quote "shit-hole countries"?

Do you remember how rude you were to reporters calling them "fake news" and your other such antics toward them that, no doubt, left them bewildered and/or hurt their feelings. You treated them with disdain, cruelly barking at them pretty much like a mad dog.

You also were rude to women, talking about them like they were mindless pieces of meat and that you could have any one of them you wanted by and I quote "grabbing them by their pussy". You degraded them, shamed them.

And what about the coronavirus, little boy Trump? Over 390, 000 plus people dead. You know anything at all about that. If you do, you surely don't act like you do. If anything, you acted like you didn't care that people were dying.

Many lives might have been saved had you told the American people the truth about the seriousness of the virus that you knew would kill people. "It'll go away." "It's gonna be a miracle." "Drink some bleach." "Put some light under your skin."

Instead of taking responsibility for your selfish actions, you continuously blamed every one else. You even fired people in your administration who told you, when necessary, what would be best to do about some adverse situations.

You KNEW that there was no voter fraud yet you keep lying to your supporters saying that you won the election, proverbially crying that the election was "rigged,"

even after it was proved 60 times or more in courts and by re-counts that there was no voter fraud. Still you would not concede.

You wanted to hold on to power, to show you white supremist supporters that you were the man for the job, that you would "make America great again." Didn't you really want to say "make America white again"?

Even your supporters boldly tell people who speak other languages to "go back to your own country." How bold is that? Bold just like you, huh? Bold just like you inciting your supporters to "go to the Capitol and fight like hell!"

In the last days of your presidency, some republicans turned against you, one even saying that you lied to Americans about the election being stolen.

Speaking of republicans, it was also found out who the ones were who also encouraged your supporters to "fight for their country and against the voter fraud."

They acted out and people were hurt, died, and charged with federal crimes. All because of a LIE.

People in America and around the world were looking at all your actions. You lied about one thing after another, did one dirty thing after another. You even pardoned criminals in your administration.

Trump, you know good and well that you really lost being re-elected because of your own evil, self-centered, immature, racist actions.

In light of everything bad that happened because of you, you STILL aren't man enough to tell the truth! You are the only president to get impeached twice and you STILL haven't changed. You went from bad to worse by reciting what every one knows was scripted. You were no more sincere then than you were in your other scripted speech when the rioting at the capital was happening. Seems that you people think every one is as dumb as your supporters.

Every thing you didn't do and say appropriate, and every thing you did and said inappropriate will always be in people's memories. Wrong will never conquer right, Trump.

Maybe now or someday you, crooked politicians, your supporters and other people in the world will see that God doesn't like ugly.

In retrospect: You never were a real leader! All you did was divide this country, caused death and many to mourn their deceased loved ones.

Congratulations, Trump. Pat yourself on the back for you will now go down in history as the worst president ever.

  15. Just stop buying their products, only buy American products that are for America.. I will be reading more labels for were it is made and what company's it is from. If we can't get the real government by voting and it is paid for by big company's we will not buy there products. its that simple .

  16. Good all of these companies using their PAC'S to corrupt the political process and paying lobbyists to bend the ear of politicians is destroying the country. It should be 100% illegal America for companies to be able to pay to change laws to favor business over the people.

  18. Those corporations should withdraw all their advertising from Fox to stop the right wing lies that Fox spreads if not the public should boycott those companies for enabling the spread of those lies

  19. Thank you companies and we as consumers have power in our purchases. Please keep posting companies so we know who we should support and buy from. People buy your products from companies who support your views. Don't forget to support your local small restaurants too if they support your views. We don't have to support celebrities who don't support our views don't watch their movies or buy stocks from the companies who film them. We have power in purchases let's hit em in the ole billfold.

  20. Selfish morons. A mad man destroyed the US & brand USA : only a rotten democracy could place a madman as its leader. Why? Only so the rich get more money. Selfish venal crooks all.

  21. How can anyone of any integrity and intelligence be onboard Trump’s derailing treasonous train ?
Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley were the radical Conductors of the attacks against The Congress Of The United States.

  22. "Donald Trump & Your Republican Party…

"Get The Hell Out Of Washington…

    "Every Traitor"

    "American Lives Depend On It…

    Never Forget

  23. There has to be a fight for the GOP to find its soul. Those that have no stomach for it should leave the room. Although infighting is not welcomed, there is no way to avoid it now. The die is cast — and the opportunity is fleeting.
